Mazda RX7 FD3S Cowl Filter Kit
The FD RX7 does not have a cabin air filter available on modern cars. The blower fan sources unfiltered fresh air from an opening under the windshield cowl area from two of three openings on the cowl (one of them is blocked off with a factory cover). The openings are covered only by the OEM windshield cowl trim, and unfortunately, the cowl trim has large grids that allow debris to drop into the cavity leading to the blower fan inlet. As a result, you end up getting leaves, etc. in the blower fan.
This kit does two things:
- Blocks off the large opening on the cowl
- Has two debris filters for the two smaller openings at the center of the cowl area
The larger block off piece comes with butyl rubber sealant which has to be applied prior to install (see video below). The two debris filters are designed to be installed with a snap fit and can be removed by sliding them forward and away from the cowl (with cowl trim installed). The filters, once removed can be cleaned. Our testing has indicated there is no effect on blower fan speed.
The kit is available for either LHD or RHD models - please specify when ordering. Install requires removal of the OEM cowl trim, which may result in broken screw covers - replacements are available here.

- Large opening block off with buytl rubber sealant and plastic retainer
- 2 debris filters
